Where to Stay in Corfu

Where to Stay in Corfu

Corfu town is the obvious starting point for mid-range travelers, and for good reason. The Venetian old town puts you within walking distance of restaurants, nightlife, and the ferry port, and mid-range hotels here typically run between 80 and 150 euros per night depending on season. Look for smaller family-run hotels tucked into the narrow streets rather than the larger properties on the main waterfront, which charge a premium purely for the address. Kanoni, just south of Corfu town, offers slightly quieter surroundings while keeping you close enough to explore without renting a car every day.

The northeast coast, particularly around Kassiopi and Kalami, attracts visitors who want beauty without the chaos of the west coast party strips. Accommodation here tends to be small guesthouses and apartments, which suits mid-range budgets well and gives you more space than a standard hotel room. The drive to get here matters though, so factor in car rental costs when comparing prices against staying closer to town.

Avoid Kavos entirely unless you actively want the full package holiday atmosphere. It draws enormous crowds of young partygoers and the accommodation reflects that market, with quality suffering noticeably during peak summer weeks. Similarly, Sidari and parts of Paleokastritsa can feel overwhelmed in July and August, with value dropping as demand spikes.

For budget-conscious mid-range travelers, apartments and studios represent better value than hotels in Corfu. You get kitchen access, more space, and often better locations. Spending 100 euros per night on a studio with a sea view beats spending the same on a small hotel room with a car park view every time.

The most common booking mistake people make in Corfu is booking accommodation without checking the actual distance to the beach. Many listings describe themselves as beachside when they sit a ten to fifteen minute drive away. Always check coordinates on a map before confirming, because Corfu is mountainous and distances that look short online can involve winding roads that take far longer than expected. Book early for July and August, as the genuinely good mid-range options disappear fast.
