# Corfu in March: Honest Thoughts
Look, Corfu in March is a completely different animal to the place you’ve seen on Instagram, and whether that’s a good or bad thing depends entirely on what you’re after.
The weather sits around 14-15°C, which sounds reasonable until you’re actually standing in Corfu Town in a light jacket watching clouds roll in off the Ionian. It’s not cold exactly, but it’s genuinely unpredictable. You’ll get gorgeous crisp sunny days where the light on the old Venetian buildings is honestly stunning, followed by a grey afternoon dumping 45mm of rain across the whole island. Pack layers and accept that some days will just be wet ones.
Here’s what nobody tells you though: the island is **beautiful** in March. Everything is aggressively green, wildflowers are everywhere, and the water is this extraordinary clear turquoise even if you won’t be swimming in it comfortably. The landscape looks nothing like the baked, dusty version of high summer.
Crowds are essentially zero. You can walk around the Old Town, wander through the Achilleion Palace, and sit in a taverna without once feeling like you’re in a theme park. Locals are relaxed, genuinely pleased to see visitors, and you’ll have actual conversations rather than transactions.
The honest downside is that things close. Some beach tavernas, boat trips, and outlying restaurants simply won’t be operating yet. You need to work a little harder to find food options in smaller villages. The main town functions properly, but don’t plan a trip built around exploring remote coastal spots only to find the one café there is shuttered until April.
**Who should go:** couples, solo travellers, photographers, hikers, anyone who finds summer Corfu overwhelming. Walking the Corfu Trail is genuinely excellent in March.
**Who shouldn’t:** families with young kids expecting beach holidays, anyone who gets miserable when it rains.
**One practical tip:** book accommodation in Corfu Town itself rather than a resort. Half the resorts are closed, and the town is actually where all the life is in shoulder season.
Worth it? For the right person, absolutely yes.
