February in Athens is grey, often damp, and genuinely cold in a way that catches people off guard. That Mediterranean climate everyone romanticises doesn’t fully kick in until April at the earliest. You’re looking at around 11°C most days, which sounds manageable until you factor in the wind cutting through marble plazas and the fact that Greek buildings aren’t exactly insulated for winter. Pack warmer than you think you need to.

The rain comes in bursts rather than relentless drizzle – 50mm spread across the month means you’ll have perfectly fine days interrupted by sudden downpours. Carry a compact umbrella and don’t plan anything that relies on consecutive sunny hours.

Who should go? History and culture people, photographers, anyone who actually wants to *think* in museums rather than survive them. It rewards the curious over the Instagram-checklist crowd.

Who might struggle? Anyone expecting beach weather or wanting the full outdoor café experience. Families with young kids who need sunshine to stay functional. People easily deterred by a grey sky.

**One practical tip:** The Acropolis Museum is heated, beautifully lit, and world-class. Build your itinerary around having it as a long, unhurried afternoon rather than a quick stop. February is exactly when that kind of visit becomes possible.
