# Skiathos in November: The Honest Version

Let me be straight with you – Skiathos in November is a completely different island from the one plastered across Instagram. And depending on what you’re after, that’s either a problem or exactly the point.

The weather sits around 13°C, which feels colder than it sounds when the wind comes off the Aegean. Pack layers you actually mean. You’ll get roughly 60mm of rain across the month, meaning overcast days, genuine downpours, and occasionally that heavy Mediterranean drizzle that soaks you before you’ve noticed. There will also be bright, clear days that make the pine forests look absurdly beautiful. You just can’t predict which you’re getting on any given morning.

The crowds are essentially gone. Skiathos Town, which spends summer suffocating under bachelor parties and day-trippers, becomes a genuinely pleasant small Greek town again. Locals reclaim the waterfront. Cats reclaim everything else. You can walk the narrow streets without anyone’s selfie stick in your face, and taverna owners have time to actually talk to you.

What’s open is the real catch. A significant chunk of restaurants, bars, and shops close entirely from late October through April. The famous beach bars at Koukounaries? Shuttered. Some accommodation options disappear too. You’ll find the essentials – a handful of good tavernas, a supermarket, basic services – but don’t arrive expecting summer’s full menu of options.

Is it worth it? For the right person, absolutely yes. If you want walking through pine forests to empty beaches, reading without interruption, cheap accommodation, and a genuine sense of somewhere real rather than a tourist production – November delivers. It’s quietly lovely in a way July simply cannot be. Ferry connections get thinner though, so check your routes home carefully.

It’s genuinely not for people wanting beach holidays, nightlife, or the full Greek island experience. Those people should wait until May.

**Practical tip:** Book accommodation by phone or email rather than the big platforms – half the listed places won’t actually be open, and a direct conversation saves wasted journeys.
