Look, Hvar in December is a completely different planet from the place you’ve seen on Instagram. And depending on what you want from a trip, that’s either wonderful or a mistake.

The weather is genuinely mild by northern European standards – around 8°C most days – but don’t let that fool you into thinking Mediterranean warmth. If you want to walk the lavender fields without another soul around, sit in a near-empty café nursing coffee while rain hits the window, and feel like you actually understand a place rather than surviving its peak, December Hvar delivers something real and quiet and quite beautiful. It suits solo travellers, couples who don’t need entertainment, writers, people recovering from things.

If you need sunshine, beach days, or a buzzing social scene, you’ll be miserable. Be honest with yourself before you book.
