# Vis in October: The Island After the Party

By October, Vis has exhaled. The flotillas of charter yachts have gone, the beach bars have pulled down their shutters, and the island has quietly returned to itself. Whether that appeals to you entirely depends on what you came looking for.

The weather sits in that genuinely pleasant middle ground – around 20°C most days, warm enough to sit outside with a coffee or wine without a jacket at lunch, cool enough to actually walk somewhere without melting. You’ll get sunshine, but October brings real rain too, nearly 90mm across the month, which sounds manageable until it arrives all at once in a grey two-day stretch that makes the harbour look beautiful and your hiking plans look optimistic. Pack something waterproof and don’t build an itinerary that can’t flex.

The honest caveat: a meaningful chunk of things close. Some restaurants, boat trip operators, and the more tourist-dependent businesses wrap up by late September or fold quietly after a quiet first October weekend. You won’t be spoiled for choice in the evenings. If a buzzing social scene matters to you, October Vis will feel lonely rather than peaceful.

It’s genuinely worth visiting if you’re the kind of person who walks for two hours to find a cove and considers that a successful day. Couples, older travellers, anyone wanting to read a book somewhere beautiful without negotiating sunbeds – this is your month.

**Practical tip:** Ferries from Split run less frequently than summer, and the schedule changes in October. Check current timetables on Jadrolinija’s website before booking accommodation – missing the last ferry back is a real possibility, not a dramatic hypothetical.
