# Makarska in November: Pretty Quiet, Pretty Wet
Let me be straight with you. November in Makarska is a town that’s essentially gone to sleep, and the weather is doing its best to make you stay indoors.
Sixteen degrees sounds almost reasonable until you factor in that 260mm of rain – that’s a serious amount of water falling from the sky over a single month. You’re not looking at occasional showers. You’re looking at proper, relentless Mediterranean autumn rain that comes in sideways off the Adriatic and makes the famous Biokovo mountain disappear entirely behind cloud for days at a time. Pack accordingly, and then pack a bit more.
The crowds situation is genuinely striking. The Riva promenade, which in July you’d be fighting through shoulder-to-shoulder, is basically yours. Most restaurants, bars, and shops are either shuttered completely or running skeleton hours with zero certainty. Don’t arrive expecting the town to revolve around you – check ahead for anything specific you want to do, because assumptions will let you down.
What is actually open tends to be places serving locals rather than tourists, which honestly produces some of the more authentic experiences you’ll have. Coffee with fishermen rather than selfie-sticks.
The scenery, when the rain pauses, is genuinely beautiful in a melancholy way. The light is different, the pebble beach is dramatic and empty, and Biokovo when it’s visible looks properly wild and imposing.
Is it worth it? For the right person, absolutely yes. If you’re after peace, cheap accommodation, and walking without anyone bothering you, November delivers. The old town has genuine character when it’s not buried under tourist infrastructure.
If you need beach swimming, guaranteed sunshine, open restaurants every night, or any kind of buzzy atmosphere – wrong month, wrong place.
**Practical tip:** Don’t rely on public transport timetables you find online. Bus services drop significantly in winter and schedules from summer are still floating around the internet. Call ahead or check at the local bus station directly when you arrive.
