# Šibenik in April: What It’s Actually Like

April in Šibenik sits in that interesting middle ground where Croatia hasn’t fully woken up yet but you can already feel it stretching. The temperature averages around 18°C, which sounds lovely on paper and genuinely is for walking, but pair that with nearly 80mm of rainfall across the month and you’re looking at some properly grey, drizzly days mixed in with genuinely spectacular sunshine. Pack for both without question.

The crowds are still manageable, which is honestly the main reason to consider going. The old town feels like it belongs to actual humans rather than a river of selfie sticks. You can walk the narrow streets up to St. James’s Cathedral, stop and actually look at it, sit on the steps without negotiating around tour groups. That cathedral deserves unhurried attention and April gives you that.

Most restaurants and cafes are open, though some smaller places are still running reduced hours or haven’t quite hit their stride yet. The waterfront is functioning but not buzzing. You’ll find locals using it more than tourists, which some people love and others find a little flat depending on what they’re after.

St. Nicholas’s Fortress and the National Park of Krka are accessible, though Krka can be busier than you’d expect even in April because it’s one of those places that travels hard on social media year-round. Go on a weekday if you can.

Is it worth visiting in April? For photographers, history people, slow travellers, and anyone who genuinely hates crowds, absolutely yes. If you want a beach holiday with reliable sunshine and a buzzing restaurant scene until midnight, you’re about four to six weeks early.

**One practical tip:** bring a proper waterproof jacket rather than relying on a packable one. When rain comes in off the Adriatic in April it can be horizontal and persistent. A café to duck into helps, but you’ll still need to get between them.

Šibenik rewards the visitor who meets it halfway. April requires that meeting more than August does.
