Look, Sitges in December is a completely different animal to the place you’ve seen on Instagram. The rainbow flags are still flying, the beautiful modernista buildings are still there, but the whole town breathes differently when the summer circus has packed up and gone home.

The weather sits around 14-15°C, which sounds perfectly reasonable until a sea wind decides to remind you this is actually winter. Bring a proper jacket. The light, though, on a clear December afternoon hitting those whitewashed walls and the church above the sea? Genuinely stunning.

Locals reclaim the town completely, and if you’ve ever wanted to see what Sitges actually is beyond the party reputation, this is your window. It’s smaller, quieter, and honestly more charming.

The catch is that plenty of restaurants and bars operate reduced hours or close entirely, particularly mid-week. Some of the smaller places shut through January and use December to repaint. You won’t struggle to eat well, but spontaneously wandering and assuming things are open will occasionally disappoint you. The wine bars and year-round restaurants around the old town hold steady.

The Christmas decorations go up properly by mid-month, and Sitges does this with genuine local pride rather than commercial cynicism. The market stalls and nativity scenes feel authentic.

**Worth visiting in December?** Yes, but for a specific type of traveller. If you want beaches and nightlife, wrong month entirely. If you want a beautiful Mediterranean town at walking pace, decent food and wine, zero queues, and the occasional dramatic moody seascape, it’s quietly excellent.

**One practical tip:** Check restaurant opening days before you go, not when you’re standing hungry outside a locked door on a Tuesday evening. A quick Google saves real frustration.
