# Gozo in March: Honest Thoughts
Look, March in Gozo is not the Instagram version of the Mediterranean. The temperature sits around 15 degrees, the wind comes off the sea with genuine intention, and you will almost certainly get rained on at least once. That 36mm of rainfall sounds manageable until it arrives sideways during your cliff walk above Dwejra.
But here’s the thing: I’d still go, for the right reasons.
The island in March belongs to actual humans. Locals are running their errands, the restaurants in Victoria are serving food for people who live there rather than people photographing it, and you can stand inside the Azure Window’s replacement viewpoint without queuing behind a tour group from a cruise ship. The countryside is genuinely stunning right now – the fields are absurdly green, wildflowers are pushing through everywhere, and the light on those limestone walls does something photographers spend whole summers chasing and never quite find.
Most of the main sites are open. The Citadel, the salt pans at Marsalforn, the churches, the main restaurants in Xlendi and Marsalforn – you won’t find things shuttered the way they are in deep winter. Some smaller beach bars and seasonal spots are still locked up, which honestly just means you eat somewhere more interesting instead.
Is it worth it? Depends entirely on who you are. If you need heat, a beach body of water you can actually swim in, and a buzzing evening scene, wait until June. But if you want to walk the coastal paths without dying of heat, spend three hours in a village bar watching nothing much happen, rent a car for almost nothing and actually park it wherever you like, and eat well without booking two weeks ahead – March genuinely delivers.
The island rewards slower attention, and the off-season forces exactly that.
**One practical tip:** Pack a decent waterproof layer, not a light packable thing. The wind makes temperature feel significantly colder than forecasts suggest, especially anywhere elevated or coastal.
