# Gozo in June: What It’s Actually Like

June is quietly one of the best times to visit Gozo, and most people don’t realise it yet.

The weather sits around 22-23°C, which sounds modest until you’re actually there. It’s warm enough to swim comfortably, spend full days outside, and eat dinner on a terrace without a jacket. But it hasn’t tipped into the punishing heat of July and August, when the island bakes and even locals retreat indoors between noon and four. That 22.5°C average is genuinely pleasant rather than just survivable.

Rainfall is almost irrelevant at 1.1mm for the month. You might get one brief shower, possibly nothing at all.

Crowds are manageable in early June and building by the last week. The island never gets as slammed as Malta itself, but by late June you’ll notice tour groups at Ggantija and the Azure Window viewpoint area filling up by mid-morning. Ferries from Malta get busier on weekends. That said, this is still a long way from August chaos. You can get a table at most restaurants without booking three days ahead.

Everything is open. That’s worth saying plainly because shoulder season sometimes means closed museums and shut restaurants. Not here in June. Gozo’s hospitality season is fully running, the dive centres are operating, boat trips around the island are going, and the villages are doing their festa season, which means brass bands, fireworks, and decorated streets on various weekends. Check which village feast falls during your visit because it’s genuinely fun rather than a tourist performance.

The sea temperature is around 22-23°C too, which most people find perfectly swimmable, especially at sheltered spots like Xlendi or Mgarr ix-Xini.

**Who should go in June:** couples, anyone who hates crowds but wants full services, divers, walkers before the heat arrives, and people who want the real texture of the place rather than a beach resort experience.

**One practical tip:** hire a car the moment you arrive. The bus system exists but June activities spread across the whole island, and you’ll waste half your time waiting otherwise.
