# Alanya in April: What It’s Actually Like

April in Alanya sits in that interesting middle ground where the resort hasn’t fully woken up yet but winter’s sulky mood has mostly cleared out. You’re looking at around 20°C, which sounds perfect on paper, and honestly it often is — warm enough for a light jacket walk along the harbour in the afternoon, comfortable enough to explore the castle without sweating through your shirt. But that 65mm of rainfall means you will almost certainly catch at least one proper rainy day, possibly two or three shorter ones. It’s Mediterranean rain, so usually dramatic and fast rather than the grey drizzle that ruins a whole week, but pack accordingly.

The crowds are genuinely low. If you find the summer version of Alanya — packed beaches, thumping bars, sunbeds elbow to elbow — exhausting or unappealing, April is when the place shows a different, quieter face. You can actually look at Cleopatra Beach without standing in a queue for it, walk up to the Red Tower without battling tour groups, and eat at restaurants where the staff have time to talk to you.

What’s actually open is the honest part most travel sites skip. Plenty of smaller restaurants, bars and beach clubs are still shuttered or running skeleton hours. The big hotels are mostly operational but you’re not getting the full resort experience. Some boat trips are running, the bazaar is open, the castle is accessible year-round. But if you’ve imagined a buzzing beach promenade, you’ll find something more like a town still stretching after a long sleep.

It’s worth it for: couples who prefer atmosphere over action, history enthusiasts, photographers, anyone who hates crowds on principle, and budget travellers — prices are noticeably lower.

It’s probably not right for: families with kids expecting the full beach holiday, anyone who needs reliable sunshine every single day.

**Practical tip:** Bring layers you can actually remove. Mornings and evenings can drop to 13-14°C, and that sea breeze catches people off guard after a warm afternoon.
