# Ölüdeniz in April: What It’s Actually Like

April sits in that interesting middle ground where Ölüdeniz hasn’t fully woken up yet but is definitely stretching and yawning. The famous Blue Lagoon is there, looking every bit as ridiculously turquoise as the photos promise, but you’ll have actual space to appreciate it rather than fighting through a wall of sunburned bodies to reach the water.

**The weather is genuinely pleasant but not beach weather.** That 20.5°C average sounds appealing until you realize it dips considerably at night and the breeze off the water carries some chill. You’ll swim if you’re determined or northern European, but most people aren’t. The 52mm of rainfall means you’ll likely catch a rainy day or two, sometimes more. Showers tend to be dramatic and brief rather than grey and relentless, but pack a layer and don’t plan your entire trip around full beach days.

**Crowds are refreshingly light.** The paragliding from Babadağ still runs, the boat trips are operating, and the restaurants lining the seafront are open, though some smaller places are still shaking off the winter dust. Prices are noticeably lower than peak season, accommodation is easy to find, and you won’t queue for anything. Butterfly Valley is accessible and genuinely beautiful without July’s sardine-tin atmosphere.

**Who should come in April?** Hikers absolutely should. The Lycian Way passes through this area and April conditions are ideal – wildflowers everywhere, manageable temperatures, green hillsides that look nothing like the scorched landscape of August. History people, photographers, anyone who wants the scenery without the infrastructure that comes with mass tourism.

**Who should probably wait?** Anyone whose entire happiness depends on guaranteed beach days and warm evening swims. Go in June or September instead.

**One practical tip:** Book paragliding early in your trip rather than saving it for the last day. Weather can close the mountain with zero warning, and you don’t want to leave without having done the one thing Ölüdeniz does better than almost anywhere else on earth.
