# Albufeira in October: The Honest Version

By October, Albufeira has exhaled. The relentless summer circus — the hen parties, the sunburned queues, the 40-degree misery on packed beaches — has mostly packed up and gone home. What’s left is actually pretty pleasant, if you know what you’re walking into.

The temperature sits around 20°C, which sounds perfect on paper and largely is. You’ll get genuinely warm, sunny days where a t-shirt is fine and the sea is still swimmable — the Atlantic holds its heat longer than you’d expect. But October also brings proper Atlantic weather, and those 45mm of rain don’t always spread themselves politely across the month. Sometimes you get a grey, blustery week where the Old Town feels a bit forlorn and every café has the same damp umbrellas dripping outside. Go prepared for both versions.

Crowds are dramatically reduced, which is either the point or the problem depending on who you are. The main strip loses its frenetic energy entirely. Plenty of bars, clubs and tourist-facing restaurants close for the season or cut their hours significantly — don’t assume your favourite spot from a summer trip will be open. The beach is genuinely yours, though. Walking the Praia dos Pescadores on a quiet Tuesday morning with almost nobody around is a genuinely lovely experience that summer visitors never get.

So who is October actually good for? Couples wanting a relaxed, affordable break. Walkers and golfers who’d die of heatstroke in August. People who want Algarve scenery without feeling like they’re inside a festival. Older travellers. Photographers. Anyone who finds peak-season Albufeira a bit much, honestly.

It’s less suited to people who need guaranteed sunshine, lively nightlife, or full resort facilities without checking ahead.

**One practical tip:** Don’t anchor your whole trip around a specific restaurant or bar without confirming it’s open in October. Ring ahead or check recent reviews. Turning up to find shuttered windows gets old quickly, and the town is small enough that closures genuinely limit your options.

Worth it for the right person? Absolutely yes.
