Visiting Paxos in June
# Paxos in June: What It’s Actually Like
June is genuinely one of the better times to visit Paxos, and I’ll tell you why without overselling it.
The weather is warm and mostly reliable, typically sitting in the mid-to-high twenties Celsius, with long sunny days and a decent breeze that stops it feeling oppressive. That said, early June can still surprise you with a grey day or an unexpected shower – the Mediterranean hasn’t fully committed yet. By late June it’s much more settled and consistently hot. Pack a light layer for evenings regardless, because sitting outside at a taverna after dark can get cooler than you’d expect.
Crowds are the real reason to consider June seriously. Paxos is a small island – genuinely small, like twenty minutes to drive end to end – and it gets absolutely rammed in July and August. The narrow lanes clog up, the beaches feel crowded, and the vibe shifts from relaxed to slightly frantic. In June, particularly the first half, you’re catching it before the full summer surge. Boats aren’t queuing three deep at Lakka harbour. You can actually get a table at Erimitis without planning your entire day around it.
Everything is open by June. Restaurants, boat hire, the little shops in Gaios – all running properly. Some places only bother fully staffing from mid-June, so very early in the month you might find the odd place not quite at full capacity, but nothing that would ruin a trip.
Who is it ideal for? Couples, anyone who wants to actually relax rather than perform relaxation, sailors, people who like snorkelling in clear water without a crowd around them. It’s less ideal if your holiday depends on buzzing nightlife – Paxos is quiet by nature and June doesn’t change that.
Is it worth it? Yes, honestly. You’re getting the island close to its best without the peak-season price tag on everything or the accompanying chaos.
**Practical tip:** Book your hire boat in advance. The good operators fill up faster than you’d think, and without a boat, you’re missing half of what Paxos actually is.
