# Valencia in April: What It’s Actually Like
April in Valencia sits in that sweet spot where summer hasn’t arrived yet but winter has genuinely packed its bags. You’re looking at around 18-19°C most days, which feels properly warm if you’ve come from northern Europe but occasionally makes locals reach for a light jacket in the evenings. There’s roughly 30mm of rain across the month, so expect maybe four or five showery days rather than constant drizzle. It’s not beach weather unless you run hot, but it’s genuinely lovely for walking around without wanting to die.
The city feels like itself in April. Las Fallas has finished in March, which means the Instagram crowd has largely cleared out, but you’re not yet into the summer crush of July and August. The old town, the Mercado Central, the City of Arts and Sciences – you can actually move through these places without feeling like cattle. Restaurants have space. Locals are still visibly present and not yet exhausted by tourists.
Everything is open. This sounds obvious but it matters – Valencia doesn’t really have an off-season closure problem, and April means full operating hours at museums, the cathedral, and boat trips around the Albufera. The surrounding orange groves are finishing their blossom season, and the rice paddies at Albufera are filling up. If paella matters to you, this is genuinely good timing.
**Who should go?** Couples, solo travellers, anyone who likes culture and food without the noise. Families do fine too, but teenagers might sulk about the sea temperature.
**Who might struggle?** Beach-holiday purists. The Mediterranean is sitting around 16°C and most people find that bracing rather than refreshing.
**Is it worth it?** Yes, honestly one of the better months to go. You get the city behaving naturally, decent weather, and nothing closed.
**One practical tip:** Book paella lunch on Saturday or Sunday at least a week ahead. The good places along the Albufera fill up fast, and turning up hoping for a table is optimistic bordering on delusional.
