Visiting Biograd na Moru in May

# Biograd na Moru in May: Worth the Trip?

May is honestly one of the better times to visit Biograd, and I say that as someone who’s been there in the height of summer and spent half the trip queuing for ice cream in 35-degree heat.

**What’s the weather actually like?** This is where I have to be straight with you — May in Biograd is genuinely unpredictable. You’ll likely get a mix of warm, sunny days sitting around 20-23°C alongside cooler spells and some rain. Storms can roll in from the Adriatic with surprisingly little warning. Pack a light jacket and don’t plan your entire itinerary around being on the beach every single day. The sun will probably show up more than it hides, but probably isn’t good enough when you’ve paid for flights.

**Crowds and atmosphere:** This is where May genuinely shines. The town is awake — restaurants are open, boats are in the marina, the promenade has life — but it’s not the wall-to-wall chaos of July and August when the Adriatic coast becomes a different beast entirely. You can actually find a spot on the waterfront, get a table without a reservation, and remember what it felt like to enjoy somewhere rather than just survive it.

**What’s open:** Most restaurants, the harbour area, and boat excursions to the Kornati islands are operating by May. Some smaller businesses may still be easing back into the season in early May, but by mid-to-late month you’ll find things properly running.

**Is it worth it and for whom?** Absolutely yes if you’re a couple, a solo traveller, or friends without small children who need guaranteed beach days. It’s also ideal if you want to use Biograd as a base for exploring Kornati National Park or cycling around the area without dying from heat exhaustion. Families chasing a classic beach holiday might want to wait for June when temperatures are more reliably warm.

**One practical tip:** Book your Kornati boat trip in advance even in May — they fill faster than you’d expect once the season clicks into gear.
