# Formentera in June: The Sweet Spot Before the Madness
If you’re going to visit Formentera, June might honestly be the smartest month you could pick. I say that having seen what the place looks like in August, which is essentially a floating car park with better water.
The weather sits at a genuinely lovely 23.9°C on average, which means warm enough to swim comfortably, cool enough to actually walk somewhere without wanting to die. You’ll get the occasional shower – around 5mm across the month – but these tend to be brief and dramatic rather than the kind of grey drizzle that ruins a week. Pack nothing more than a light layer for evenings.
The real story in June is the crowd situation. Early June still feels almost calm. You can get a table at a decent restaurant without a reservation made three weeks in advance, you can find a spot on Illetes beach where you’re not sharing a towel’s width with a stranger, and the ferry from Ibiza feels like transportation rather than a stress test. By late June the Italians arrive in serious numbers and prices nudge upward, but it’s still nothing like the full summer assault.
Everything worth visiting is open by now. Restaurants, beach bars, bike rental places, boat trips – the island has properly woken up without being overwhelmed. This matters because Formentera genuinely closes down outside season.
Is it worth it? For couples, solo travellers, anyone who hates crowds or wants to actually experience rather than endure the island – yes, absolutely. Families with school-age kids are the exception since you’re likely tied to July or August anyway.
**One practical tip:** bring your own snorkelling mask. The water clarity around Formentera’s posidonia seagrass meadows is remarkable, rental kit is overpriced and often grim, and twenty minutes floating above those underwater meadows is honestly the best thing the island offers. Don’t skip it because you didn’t pack fins.
June Formentera is the version worth telling people about.
