# Protaras in September: Still Summer, Just Slightly Saner

Here’s the honest version: September in Protaras is still very much summer. The sea temperature is at its absolute peak, often hitting 27-28°C, which means the water feels genuinely warm rather than refreshingly cool. Air temperatures sit comfortably in the low-to-mid thirties for most of the month, dropping slightly as you approach October. Rainfall is essentially a non-event. You might get one brief shower in the entire month, and that’s far from guaranteed.

The biggest difference from July and August isn’t the weather – it’s the crowds. Families with school-age children largely disappear after the first week, which transforms Fig Tree Bay from something resembling a packed music festival into something actually pleasant. You can find a sunbed without military planning, get a table at a decent restaurant the same day you want it, and walk along the beach in the evening without constantly excusing yourself past people.

That said, don’t expect a ghost town. Couples, older travellers, and groups of adults without kids absolutely pile in during September, so it’s busy – just a more manageable version of busy. The full resort experience is still running. Water parks, boat trips, the tavernas along the strip, the beach bars – everything is open and operating properly. You’re not arriving to find half the shops shuttered like you might in late October.

Is it worth visiting in September? Genuinely, yes – and probably more so than the peak summer months for anyone who finds crowds exhausting. The sea is beautiful, the evenings are warm enough to eat outside comfortably in a light shirt, and prices often dip slightly from their August highs.

It suits couples, adult friend groups, and anyone prioritising actually enjoying the beach over the full chaotic holiday-resort experience. Families with young children who don’t need to work around school terms will still have a perfectly good time.

**Practical tip:** Book accommodation early anyway. September’s reputation for being quieter means availability gets snapped up faster than people expect.
