Al Hoceima remains one of Morocco’s least touristed coastal towns, which makes finding decent budget accommodation surprisingly straightforward since owners haven’t yet inflated prices to match demand. The town itself is small enough that location matters less than it might elsewhere, but the area around Place du Rif and the central medina offers the best value for budget travelers. Small family-run guesthouses and basic hotels cluster here, putting you within walking distance of the market, local restaurants, and transport connections without paying any kind of tourist premium.

The neighborhood near the port is also worth considering if you’re after budget rooms with some character. A handful of cheap pensions operate here, and you’re close enough to the beach at Plage Quemado to make the most of the coastline without renting a car. Rooms run between 150 and 300 dirhams per night at the lower end, and for that you’ll typically get a clean basic room with a shared or private bathroom. Don’t expect air conditioning at the cheapest tier, which matters in July and August when temperatures climb.

Avoid booking anything marketed toward the Spanish package tourist crowd, particularly hotels near Cala Iris or anything billing itself as a resort. These places charge three times more for marginally better amenities and pull you away from the authentic parts of town that make Al Hoceima interesting in the first place.

One booking mistake travelers consistently make here is reserving through international platforms and paying online in advance. Local guesthouses almost universally offer better rates when you walk in directly or call ahead. Many smaller pensions don’t even list online, meaning the best budget options are invisible to someone only searching on booking apps. Ask at the bus station or the local tourist office for pension recommendations and you’ll often find rooms that cost half what appears online.

If you’re traveling in June or September rather than peak summer, availability is easy and you can be genuinely selective. The low crowd levels mean bargaining politely for a slightly lower nightly rate is both acceptable and often successful.
