Early September can still feel genuinely hot, especially during the middle of the day when the sun bounces off all that blue-painted plasterwork and the medina basically becomes a reflective oven. By late September things start mellowing out noticeably, and you’ll get some genuinely pleasant evenings where sitting at a rooftop café actually feels like a reward rather than a survival exercise. Rainfall is a bit of a wildcard this month. You probably won’t see much, but the odd shower isn’t impossible, and the surrounding Rif Mountains can generate their own moody weather patterns pretty quickly.

Crowds are the bigger conversation. August is absolutely rammed with European tourists and Moroccan domestic visitors alike, and September sees that beginning to thin out. Mid-to-late September is noticeably calmer without being empty. The restaurants are all open, the shops are trading normally, and you’ll actually be able to photograph the famous blue staircases without someone’s elbow in your frame. The main Instagram spots still get busy around golden hour, let’s be realistic, but it’s manageable.

For whom is this actually worth it? If you’re a photographer, late September is arguably one of the better times to visit all year. The light has that slightly softer quality, the heat haze diminishes, and the crowds have thinned enough to capture something genuine. If you’re sensitive to heat, wait until October. If budget travel is your priority, September rates are dropping from summer peaks but haven’t quite hit autumn lows yet.

**Practical tip:** Start your mornings early and genuinely mean it. By 7am the medina is quiet, the light is gorgeous, and the temperature is tolerable. By 11am you’ll understand why the locals disappear until 4pm. Plan your day around that rhythm and September becomes quite lovely.
