Visiting Dahab in December
# Dahab in December: What It’s Actually Like
December is honestly one of the better times to visit Dahab, and I think it’s slightly underrated on the calendar.
The weather is mild rather than hot, which for a lot of people is exactly the point. Daytime temperatures sit comfortably in the low-to-mid twenties, warm enough to sit outside and eat by the water without melting, but you’ll genuinely want a layer in the evenings. The nights get properly cool, sometimes cold if you’re used to tropical standards. Rainfall is minimal across the whole Sinai peninsula in December, but don’t be surprised by the occasional overcast day or a brief shower. It’s not monsoon territory, just don’t assume pure blue skies every single day.
The water temperature has dropped from its summer peak and hovers around 22-23°C. Still diveable and snorkelable without much misery, but you’ll want a wetsuit for anything beyond a quick dip if you feel the cold easily.
Crowds are noticeable but manageable. European visitors start arriving in earnest as they escape the grey at home, and the Christmas and New Year period specifically gets busy. The Blue Hole will have people at it. Accommodation prices creep up and good budget spots book out faster than you’d expect. That said, Dahab never reaches the chaotic saturation of somewhere like Sharm el-Sheikh, so it still feels relatively relaxed even at its busiest.
Everything is open. Dive centres, restaurants, the coastal path restaurants, all of it running at full capacity. If anything, December is when places are better staffed and more attentive than the dead-quiet summer stretch.
Is it worth it? For divers and snorkellers who prefer comfortable air temperatures over scorching heat, genuinely yes. For beach-lying-doing-nothing types, it’s fine but you might feel slightly cheated on the swim temperature. For anyone wanting a chilled, low-key alternative to a Christmas package holiday, it works beautifully.
**Practical tip:** Book accommodation at least three weeks ahead for anything in the Christmas fortnight. The decent mid-range places disappear faster than you’d expect for somewhere so low-key.
