Visiting Benidorm in May
# Benidorm in May: The Sweet Spot Nobody Talks About
Honestly, if someone asked me when to visit Benidorm, May would be near the top of my list, and it’s not even close.
**The weather situation first.** May is genuinely warm but not punishing. You’re typically looking at temperatures between 20 and 26 degrees Celsius, occasionally nudging higher toward the end of the month. It’s sunny the majority of the time, but May does carry a real possibility of rain, sometimes proper downpours that roll in without much warning. Don’t let anyone tell you it’s guaranteed sunshine. Pack a light layer and accept that one afternoon might involve sheltering in a bar. Most people survive this experience quite happily.
**What it’s actually like on the ground.** This is the thing the tourism brochures won’t admit: May Benidorm is a completely different place to August Benidorm. The beaches exist. You can see the sand. The sunbeds aren’t stacked three-deep with bodies, and you can walk along the promenade without feeling like a salmon fighting upstream. The sea is still on the cool side, roughly 19 to 21 degrees, so committed swimmers will be fine but don’t expect a warm bath.
**What’s open.** Almost everything. Restaurants, bars, the waterparks towards the end of the month, boat trips, the old town. A handful of smaller operations haven’t fully fired up yet in early May, but you won’t be wandering a ghost town. The British-themed pubs are absolutely operating, because they never stop.
**Who should go.** Families who want beach time without the August chaos will love it. Couples who want some sun without paying peak prices will love it. Older travellers who find the summer heat brutal will really love it. Party-seekers wanting packed nightlife might find it slightly quieter mid-week, though weekends are livelier.
**Practical tip.** Book accommodation early anyway. May increasingly attracts savvier travellers who’ve figured out exactly what I’ve just told you, and prices are creeping up as a result.
