# Benidorm in September: The Sweet Spot Nobody Talks About Enough
Here’s the honest truth about Benidorm in September — it’s probably the best month to go, and most people don’t realise it until they’ve already been in July and suffered for it.
The summer crowds are thinning out noticeably by mid-September. The British school holidays ended in late August, so the beaches stop feeling like a human car park. You can actually find a sunbed without sending a scout ahead at 7am. The Levante and Poniente beaches are still busy, because Benidorm is always busy, but there’s a difference between lively and suffocating, and September sits firmly on the right side of that line.
Weather-wise, you’re looking at genuinely warm temperatures, typically still in the high twenties and occasionally touching thirty. The sea is at its warmest of the entire year because it’s had all summer to heat up, so swimming is genuinely pleasant rather than bracing. There’s a slightly higher chance of a thunderstorm compared to peak summer, and September can occasionally throw a heavy downpour your way, sometimes dramatically so. The Costa Blanca gets most of its annual rainfall in autumn, and September marks the beginning of that shift. Usually it passes quickly, but pack a light layer and don’t be surprised if one afternoon turns properly grey.
Everything is still open. Bars, restaurants, the waterparks, the shows, the strip. The transition to the quieter winter season doesn’t really start until October. So you get the full Benidorm experience without the worst of the chaos.
Is it worth visiting? For couples, older travellers, or anyone who wants the sunshine without wanting to queue forty minutes for a pool swim, absolutely yes. Families with younger children will still find plenty open and the beach more manageable. If you specifically love the manic peak-summer energy, you might find September feels slightly flat by comparison.
**One practical tip:** book evening restaurant tables in advance anyway. September feels quieter but popular spots still fill up, and standing hungry at 9pm is nobody’s idea of a holiday.
