Visiting Torrevieja in April

# Torrevieja in April: What It’s Actually Like

April in Torrevieja sits in that slightly awkward in-between zone where summer hasn’t quite arrived but winter has definitely packed up and left. Temperatures typically hover somewhere between 15 and 22 degrees Celsius, which sounds lovely on paper but can feel genuinely chilly when a sea breeze rolls in off the Mediterranean, especially in the evenings. Don’t let anyone convince you it’s beach weather. It usually isn’t, or at least not consistently. Some days you’ll be sitting in a cafĂ© terrace in a t-shirt feeling smug. Others you’ll be grateful you packed a jacket.

Rainfall is the honest wildcard. April can be completely dry or it can surprise you with proper downpours. The Costa Blanca gets most of its annual rain in spring and autumn, so don’t assume sunshine is guaranteed just because it’s Spain.

The genuine upside is the crowds, or rather the lack of them. Semana Santa aside, which can get busy with Spanish visitors, April is refreshingly calm. The pink salt lake still looks otherworldly. The promenade is walkable without dodging pushchairs and ice cream queues. Restaurants are open and relaxed, not overwhelmed. You can actually get a table somewhere decent without planning three days ahead.

Most things are operating, though some beach bars and seasonal businesses are warming up slowly rather than running at full capacity. The Wednesday and Saturday markets are worth your time. The salt lakes area for walking is genuinely excellent in spring.

**Is it worth visiting?** Honestly, yes, for the right person. If you want guaranteed beach-and-pool weather, wait until June. But if you like a quieter pace, reasonable prices, and don’t mind layers in the evening, April is actually a sweet spot. Retired couples and those escaping grey northern winters tend to get the most from it.

**One practical tip:** Book accommodation mid-week if you’re avoiding Semana Santa, and bring one proper waterproof. You may never open it. You’ll be glad it’s there if you do.
