Visiting Lake Como in June
# Lake Como in June: What It’s Actually Like
June sits in that sweet spot where Como hasn’t completely lost its mind yet. July and August are when the place tips over into genuine chaos, but June still has most of the good stuff without quite the same punishment.
**The weather is genuinely lovely, with a catch.** Early June can be unsettled. The Alps do strange things to weather systems, and you can get spectacular thunderstorms rolling in fast off the mountains, sometimes lasting a day or two. Late June tends to be more reliably warm and sunny, pushing into the low-to-mid 20s Celsius. The lake looks incredible in that light. But pack a light waterproof and don’t build your whole trip around guaranteed sunshine, because you might not get it.
**The crowds are real but manageable.** Bellagio on a Saturday afternoon in late June is still very busy. Varenna less so. The ferry queues can test your patience. That said, you’re not fighting through the shoulder-to-shoulder misery of August, and the villages still feel like actual places rather than human conveyor belts. Mornings are genuinely peaceful if you’re up early.
**Everything is open.** This matters more than people realise. Restaurants, boat hire, gardens, villa tours – it’s all running at full capacity. Villa del Balbianello looks its absolute best in June, surrounded by flowering terraces. Worth planning ahead and booking that one.
**Who is June actually for?** Honestly, most people. Families work well because kids aren’t in school yet in some countries, and the water is warm enough for swimming by late June. Couples get the romance without the August heat and sweat. Photographers get long evening light until nearly nine o’clock.
**The one practical thing:** book the ferries and popular restaurants ahead. Not obsessively, but the Varenna to Bellagio crossing gets backed up, and you don’t want to stand on a dock for an hour when you could have sorted it on your phone the night before.
June is probably the month most people would enjoy most. The version of Como you imagined is roughly what you’ll find.
