# Ölüdeniz in May: What It’s Actually Like
May is genuinely one of the better times to visit Ölüdeniz, and I say that as someone who’s also been there in August when you’re essentially sharing a beach towel-sized patch of sand with half of Europe.
The weather sits around 24-25°C, which sounds perfect on paper and mostly is in practice. You’ll get warm, sunny days that are absolutely ideal for the beach and the lagoon. The water is refreshing rather than bath-warm – fine for swimming, but don’t expect the Mediterranean soup you’d get in July. That 50mm of rainfall sounds alarming but it’s spread across the month, so realistically you’re looking at a handful of grey afternoons rather than a washout. Mornings are almost always clear.
Crowds are manageable, which is the real selling point. The famous Blue Lagoon is genuinely beautiful in May because you can actually see it properly. By July it looks like a packed car park with inflatables. Restaurants and bars are open and welcoming your business without the August attitude of barely glancing at you. Paragliding from Babadağ Mountain is fully operational, and booking is easier without the peak-season scramble.
The town is functional but not buzzing. If you want a lively nightlife scene, May is quieter than you might like. Some smaller places and boat tour operators are just getting started for the season, so occasionally you’ll hit a closed door.
Who should visit in May? Couples, anyone who prioritises scenery over scene, hikers tackling the Lycian Way (the temperatures are perfect for that), and families who want the facilities without the chaos. Budget-conscious travellers will also find better prices on accommodation before the high-season rates kick in properly.
Who should maybe wait? Young groups wanting maximum energy and packed beach bars – June onwards suits you better.
**Practical tip:** Book your paragliding in advance even in May. It’s already popular enough that same-day slots disappear quickly, especially on weekends when domestic Turkish tourists make the trip down.
