Where to Stay in Saranda

Where to Stay in Saranda

Saranda is a genuinely affordable destination by European standards, and budget travelers will find decent options without too much hunting around. The town is compact enough that location matters less than in larger cities, but you still want to be thoughtful about where you base yourself.

The best area for budget travelers is the main promenade strip and the streets running directly behind it. You’re within walking distance of the beach, the ferry terminal for Corfu day trips, and the bulk of the restaurants and bars. Hostels and guesthouses in this zone typically run between 15 and 30 euros per night, and the competition keeps quality reasonably honest. The hillside neighborhoods climbing above the center offer even cheaper rooms, sometimes ten euros less per night, and the views are genuinely excellent, but factor in the uphill walk back after a long beach day, especially in July heat.

Avoid booking anything marketed as beachfront without reading reviews carefully. Some properties use that term loosely, and you can end up paying a premium for a room that requires crossing a busy road and navigating construction to reach the water. Saranda is developing fast, and building work is constant in certain pockets of the seafront.

For tight budgets, guesthouses run by local families represent the best value by some distance. These rarely appear on major booking platforms, so walk a few streets back from the promenade and look for handwritten signs or ask at cafes. You get a clean room, often breakfast included, and genuinely helpful local knowledge.

The one booking mistake people consistently make is reserving accommodation in Ksamil, the nearby village, thinking they’re booking Saranda. Ksamil has beautiful beaches and is worth visiting for a day, but it operates on a different transport rhythm, and getting back late at night requires a taxi that adds up quickly over a week.

Book at least a few nights in advance during July and August. Outside peak season, showing up and negotiating in person often gets you a better rate than anything listed online.
