# Kefalonia in September: The Sweet Spot Nobody Talks About Enough

Honestly, September might be the month I’d pick over everything else for Kefalonia, and I say that having visited in July when the island was absolutely rammed.

**What the weather actually feels like**

That 24.7°C average sounds almost modest, but combine it with genuine sunshine and low humidity and it’s just… perfect. You’re not melting into the pavement like you would have been six weeks earlier. Evenings are warm enough to sit outside in a dress or a t-shirt without eventually wishing you’d brought a jumper. The 20mm of rain sounds concerning but it usually arrives as a brief, dramatic afternoon storm that clears within an hour and honestly just cools everything down nicely. Don’t let it put you off.

**The crowd situation**

The first week of September still carries some August energy, particularly around Myrtos Beach and Fiskardo. By mid-month though, something shifts. The German and British families with school-age kids have gone home. Restaurants can actually seat you without a reservation. You can park near Antisamos without wanting to cry. The beaches don’t disappear, they just become yours again in a way that feels almost unfair.

**What’s open**

Pretty much everything. Boat trips, scooter hire, all the restaurants worth eating at, the ferries to Ithaca. September isn’t the shoulder season where things start closing up – that comes later in October. You get full summer infrastructure without the full summer suffering.

**Who it’s genuinely ideal for**

Couples, solo travellers, anyone who prioritises actually relaxing over the social scene of peak season. It’s also brilliant if you want to do any walking or exploring inland without arriving at a viewpoint already drenched in sweat.

**One practical tip**

Book your accommodation anyway. September has grown in popularity and the good places – particularly anything in Fiskardo or with a sea view – still fill up. Don’t assume quieter means last-minute friendly.

Go. Seriously.
