Some of these properties look acceptable online but suffer from ageing infrastructure, thin walls, and patchy air conditioning, which becomes a real problem when temperatures hit 35 degrees. Read recent reviews carefully and specifically check comments about room temperature and noise.

Budget travellers can make the city centre work well by booking smaller guesthouses or apartments through reliable platforms. Anyone stretching into the upper mid-range should look at properties right on the Rocha beachfront, where the premium is genuinely justified by direct beach access.
