March in Al Hoceima is genuinely unpredictable, and that’s the honest starting point. You’re sitting in that awkward shoulder season where the Rif Mountains haven’t quite decided if winter is done with them yet. Some March weeks feel almost summer-adjacent — bright, clear, 18-20°C, the kind of light that makes the bay look absurdly beautiful. Other weeks bring grey skies, cold winds off the Mediterranean, and enough rain to make you question your life choices. You genuinely cannot bank on sunshine, so pack accordingly.

What this means practically is mixed. The national park and coastal scenery? Still stunning regardless of weather. The beaches, which are Al Hoceima’s main draw for most visitors? Honestly too cold and too unreliable for proper beach days. You can walk them, they’re gorgeous and completely empty, but you’re not swimming unless you’re the type of person who swims in the North Sea for fun.

Budget travellers also do well here in March — accommodation prices are noticeably lower and negotiation is easier when occupancy is thin.

**One practical tip:** Don’t rely on Google opening hours for anything. Phone ahead to restaurants and guesthouses, or just physically check. March operating reality and online listings rarely match in this town.
