# Alghero in June: What It’s Actually Like
June is probably the sweet spot for Alghero, and most people who’ve been there in August will tell you that themselves, usually with a slightly haunted look in their eyes.
The weather sits at a genuinely pleasant 25 degrees, warm enough that you’ll be in the sea happily but not so brutal that walking the old city walls at midday feels like a punishment. That 10mm of rain is basically nothing – you might get one brief afternoon shower across the whole month, maybe two. Pack one light layer for evenings and forget about it.
The old town is Catalan-influenced and genuinely lovely, with coral jewellery shops, decent seafood restaurants and those limestone walls glowing orange at sunset. In June you can actually appreciate all of this because the crowds, while present and building through the month, haven’t yet reached the full chaos of peak summer. Early June feels almost relaxed. Late June you’ll notice tour groups appearing and restaurant queues stretching. It’s a sliding scale.
Everything is open. This matters more than people realise – Sardinian businesses have a habit of being firmly shut outside season, and in June you won’t be standing outside a closed grotto wondering what went wrong. Boat trips to Neptune’s Grotto are running regularly, the beaches at Maria Pia and Lazzaretto are staffed and accessible, and the seafront restaurants aren’t just technically open but actually trying.
Who is June genuinely right for? Couples, older travellers who want warmth without being overwhelmed, families with younger children who’d struggle in August heat, and anyone who cares about actually eating at the restaurant they choose rather than wherever has a free table. If you want peak buzzy summer energy and full beach clubs at capacity, honestly wait for July.
**One practical tip:** book Neptune’s Grotto boat trip in advance online rather than wandering to the port hoping for tickets. By mid-June the morning departures sell out and you’ll end up on an underwhelming afternoon slot or miss it entirely.
