# Brač in March: Honest Thoughts
Look, March on Brač is not the postcard version. The beaches are empty, half the restaurants in Bol have a handwritten “zatvoreno” sign taped to the door, and some days the bura wind will cut right through whatever jacket you thought was sufficient. You need to know this going in.
The island sits at around 12-13°C most of the month, which sounds almost reasonable until you’re standing on Zlatni Rat with no sun and a stiff wind off the Adriatic. It rains a fair amount too, roughly 45mm spread across the month, so you’ll get grey days where the hills above Supetar disappear into cloud and the whole place feels genuinely melancholy. That’s not a complaint, actually. It has a kind of honest beauty in March that summer completely drowns under sunscreen and selfie sticks.
Crowds are essentially zero. You’re sharing the island with locals, a handful of hikers, and the occasional cyclist who knows something other tourists don’t. The interior villages like Škrip and Dol feel properly lived-in rather than curated, because nobody’s performing them for visitors yet. Stone walls, olive groves, old men with nowhere particular to be. It’s good.
What’s open is patchy. Supetar has enough year-round population to keep some restaurants and shops running reliably. Bol is spottier – you’ll find a few places open but don’t arrive expecting choice. The Blaca Hermitage is worth checking access before you go. Stone quarry sites and the interior are fully accessible and genuinely rewarding for walkers.
**Is it worth it?** Honestly, yes, but only for a specific type of traveller. If you want swimming, nightlife, or a buzzing holiday atmosphere, come back in July. If you want quiet, cheap accommodation, empty hiking trails, and the feeling of seeing somewhere real rather than a resort operating at full performance, March genuinely delivers.
**One practical tip:** Rent a car. Bus frequency drops dramatically off-season, and the best parts of the island in March are inland, not on the ferry dock.
