Cafes, markets, the covered Mercato di San Benedetto — all operating. What closes or reduces hours tends to be beach bars and tourist-facing operations that never really interested you anyway.

Is it worth it? For the right person, absolutely yes. If you want culture, food, affordable accommodation, and a city that feels like a real place, December delivers. If you need warmth and a beach holiday, book somewhere else. Simple as that.

The Christmas decorations actually suit Cagliari’s architecture rather well, and the atmosphere in the old town during early December evenings has a quiet magic that’s hard to manufacture.

**One practical tip:** Book accommodation near Castello or Villanova rather than the port area. When the weather turns properly rough, you want to be somewhere you can walk to good bars and restaurants without getting soaked. Being central in December isn’t a luxury, it’s just sensible planning.
