Look, April in Cassis is genuinely lovely, but it comes with a few asterisks worth knowing about before you book.

The weather is the classic Mediterranean tease. You’ll probably get some genuinely warm, blue-sky days where you’re sitting at a harbour café in a light jacket thinking you’ve cracked the code on travelling. Then you’ll get a day of sharp wind off the hills or a grey, rainy morning that makes the whole place feel a bit forlorn. Average temperatures sit around 13-16°C, which is pleasant rather than warm. The sea is still cold if you’re thinking about swimming – most people dip a toe, make a face, and retreat. Rainfall is real and unpredictable, so pack a layer and something waterproof rather than convincing yourself it won’t happen.

What April gets right is the crowds situation. This is genuinely one of the better months to visit because the summer madness hasn’t arrived yet. Cassis in July and August is a completely different town – packed, expensive, parking a nightmare. In April you can actually walk around, get a table at a restaurant without a reservation, and appreciate what makes the place special: those extraordinary white limestone cliffs called the Calanques, the pretty little port, the local Cassis wine you can drink on the spot.

Most things are open by April. Restaurants, boat tours to the Calanques, the wine domaines for tastings. Easter week can bring a moderate crowd bump if the timing lines up, so check the calendar.

Is it worth visiting? Yes, if you’re someone who values atmosphere over beach weather. Photographers, hikers doing the Calanques trails, people who want good food and wine without fighting for space – April suits you well. If your heart is set on a beach holiday with reliable warmth, you’d be happier in June.

**Practical tip:** Book a morning boat tour to the Calanques early in your trip, not as a last-day fallback. If the Mistral wind picks up, boats don’t run, and it can ground tours for days without warning.
