# Comino in October: The Honest Version

Let’s get the obvious thing out of the way first. Comino in July is essentially a floating car park. The Blue Lagoon gets so choked with boats and bodies that you’re essentially paying to stand in warm soup with strangers. October is a completely different proposition, and honestly, a better one for most people.

The island quietens down dramatically once September ends. The party crowd has gone home, the quad-bike tour groups thin out, and you can actually walk the trails without feeling like you’re shuffling through a queue. The Blue Lagoon still looks absurdly beautiful – that turquoise genuinely doesn’t care what month it is – but you might share it with twenty people rather than two thousand.

Weather-wise, 23.5°C is genuinely lovely. That’s not “lovely for October” with a sympathetic shrug – that’s just pleasant. You can swim comfortably, you won’t bake on the rocks, and evenings feel like proper evenings rather than extensions of the afternoon’s punishment. The 75mm of rainfall sounds alarming until you remember that’s spread across the month, usually arriving as short sharp showers rather than relentless grey misery. Pack a light layer, check the forecast morning-by-morning, and you’ll probably be fine.

What’s closed matters here. The Santa Marija Tower is the main landmark, and visiting outside peak season can mean restricted access depending on staffing. The one small hotel on the island typically closes after October hits. This is genuinely a day-trip destination in autumn, not somewhere to base yourself overnight. Come from Malta or Gozo on the ferry, spend the day, leave before dark.

It’s worth visiting in October if you’re someone who gets irritated by crowds, wants to actually snorkel without a flipper hitting your face, or is combining it with a quieter Malta trip overall. It’s not worth it if you’re expecting buzzing beach-bar energy or reliable sunshine every single day.

**Practical tip:** Confirm ferry schedules before you go. Services reduce significantly in October and the last boat back isn’t forgiving.
