# Faro in June: What It’s Actually Like
June is when Faro quietly transitions from pleasantly warm to properly hot, and honestly, it’s one of the better times to visit if you know what you’re going in for.
That 28°C average feels accurate, though by mid-afternoon it’s pushing closer to 32 or 33°C in direct sun. The old town streets are narrow enough that you get decent shade, but if you’re planning to walk the Ria Formosa trails or spend time on the lagoon islands, you’ll feel every degree. The 10mm of rain is barely worth mentioning — you might get one brief storm the entire trip, possibly nothing at all. Pack accordingly and don’t waste luggage space on a proper rain jacket.
Crowds are building but haven’t peaked yet. That happens in July and August when the Algarve gets genuinely overwhelming. June still has a holiday atmosphere without the complete surrender of the region to package tourism. The ferry to Ilha Deserta runs regularly, the restaurants in the old town are busy but you can usually get a table without planning three days ahead, and the cathedral and bone chapel are accessible without queuing.
Everything is open. This isn’t shoulder season where you’re rattling locked doors — June is full operational mode for the whole city. The fish restaurants are serving properly, the market is running, and the beaches are staffed with lifeguards.
Is it worth it? For families with school-age kids who can’t travel outside term time, it’s genuinely ideal — warm enough to be a proper holiday, not so brutal that children melt. For couples wanting a quieter Algarve experience before the summer surge, yes. For anyone who hates heat, maybe reconsider July and come in April instead.
**Practical tip:** The lagoon islands get very busy at weekends even in June because Lisbon locals drive down. If you’re visiting Ilha Culatra or Ilha Deserta, go on a Tuesday or Wednesday. The difference in atmosphere is significant, and you’ll actually get to feel like you discovered somewhere rather than queued to enter it.
