It’s not for beach holiday seekers – Gjirokaster is never that. It’s a serious, slightly melancholy, utterly beautiful city, and May lets you experience that without the summer circus.
**One practical tip:** Wear proper shoes. Not trainers, not flip flops – something with actual grip. Those Ottoman cobblestones are uneven and can be slippery after rain. More tourists twist ankles here than anywhere I’ve seen. Comfortable walking shoes with real soles will save your trip.
