October in Himarë feels like someone finally turned down the volume. The Albanian Riviera in summer is genuinely chaotic — packed beaches, blasting music, prices that seem optimistic for the infrastructure on offer. By October, most of that has evaporated, sometimes almost entirely.

The weather sits around 18°C, which sounds lovely until you’re standing on a beach with a stiff Adriatic breeze cutting through your light jacket. Swimming is still possible, especially in early October, and plenty of people do it, but you’re not lying in the sun for six hours. You’re more likely doing a brisk walk along the coast, appreciating how dramatically beautiful this stretch of Albanian coastline actually is when you’re not wedged between sun loungers. The 45mm of rain across the month means you’ll likely catch a few proper grey days — not constant drizzle, but genuine rainy afternoons where you’ll be grateful for a cafe and nowhere pressing to be.

Crowds are thin, which is the whole point. The town itself feels real again. You can actually talk to people, wander the old part of Himarë village above the main strip, and appreciate the castle ruins without photographing someone else’s holiday. Locals are noticeably more relaxed.

The honest downside: a chunk of restaurants and beach bars close by mid-October, sometimes earlier. The ones that stay open tend to be the more local, less performative spots, which is actually fine. Don’t expect a buzzing evening scene — this is quiet-village October, not resort October.

Worth it for: independent travellers, hikers tackling the nearby trails, anyone doing a broader Albania trip, couples who don’t need entertainment infrastructure, photographers.

Probably not for: families expecting beach holiday conditions, anyone who booked based on August Instagram content.

**Practical tip:** Call or message accommodation directly rather than booking through platforms. Several places listed online are effectively closed but haven’t updated their listings, which makes for an annoying arrival.

Go in the first two weeks if you want the best balance of decent weather and genuine quiet. It’s a good month here.
