# Hurghada in October: What It’s Actually Like

Here’s the honest version nobody puts in the brochure.

October is genuinely one of the better months to visit Hurghada, and that’s not marketing speak. The brutal summer heat that makes August feel like standing inside an oven starts backing off meaningfully. You’re typically looking at temperatures in the low-to-mid 30s Celsius early in the month, dropping to something approaching pleasant by the final week. It still feels warm, sometimes very warm, but it’s no longer the kind of heat that defeats you by 10am.

Rainfall is almost laughably rare. Egypt’s Red Sea coast is one of the driest places on earth, and October delivers on that promise almost every year. You might see a cloudy afternoon, maybe a brief shower if you’re particularly unlucky, but genuinely plan for sunshine and you’ll be right.

The crowds are in an interesting in-between state. The peak European summer rush has cleared out, which means better prices, easier beach access, and hotel staff who have a moment to actually speak with you. However, it’s not dead quiet either. Eastern European visitors and Russians tend to fill the gap, so the resorts still feel operational and lively rather than ghost-town empty. Everything is open, restaurants are running, dive centres are fully staffed, the snorkelling boats are going out daily.

Speaking of which, the Red Sea is arguably at its most rewarding for underwater activity right now. Visibility is excellent, water temperatures are around 26-28°C, and marine life is active. If you came for the sea rather than the beach bar scene, October genuinely delivers.

**Is it worth it?** For couples who want quality reef diving without peak-season pricing, absolutely. For families wanting manageable heat without pulling kids out of school in peak summer, yes. For solo travellers who find August’s relentless party atmosphere exhausting, it’s a relief.

**Practical tip:** Book your dive trips or snorkelling excursions directly with local operators at the marina rather than through your hotel. You’ll pay meaningfully less for the same boat and the same reef.
