# Limassol in February: What It’s Actually Like
Look, February in Limassol is a bit of a gamble, and anyone who tells you otherwise is trying to sell you a hotel room.
The weather is genuinely unpredictable. You might get a stunning 18-degree sunny day that makes you feel smug about escaping northern Europe, and then the next morning you’re looking at grey skies and proper rain hammering the promenade. Locals joke that February has four seasons in a single week, and they’re not entirely wrong. Pack layers. Pack a waterproof. Don’t pack only shorts.
What it actually feels like is a city living its real life rather than performing for tourists. The seafront is quiet. The tourist restaurants along the old harbour are either closed or half-empty, which means the places that are open are fighting harder for your custom. You’ll eat better for less money. The wine bars in the old town are cosy and genuinely local. Nobody is queueing for anything.
The Limassol Carnival happens in February or very early March depending on the year, and it transforms the city completely. Suddenly there’s noise, costumes, parades and a festive energy that feels nothing like peak season but genuinely fun in a different way. If your dates align with carnival, the whole calculation changes.
Most beaches are empty and slightly windswept. You’re not swimming unless you’re the kind of person who swims in February everywhere, in which case you’re already packing a wetsuit. The castle, the archaeological museum, the old town itself – all open, all uncrowded, all significantly more enjoyable without August’s wall-to-wall visitors.
Is it worth it? For culture, food, relaxed exploration and people-watching in actual Cypriot life – yes, genuinely. For beach holiday expectations – wrong month entirely.
**Practical tip:** Book accommodation in the old town rather than the beach strip. In February the beach location adds nothing, but being walking distance from the covered market and the wine bars adds everything. Prices drop significantly compared to summer, so you can usually afford somewhere nicer than you’d normally book.
