Visiting Losinj in June

# Visiting Lošinj in June

June is honestly one of the better times to visit Lošinj, and I say that as someone who’s also sweated through August there wondering why I didn’t come earlier.

The weather is warm and genuinely pleasant rather than punishing. You’re looking at temperatures mostly in the mid-to-high twenties Celsius, with good sunshine and long evenings that feel almost unfairly beautiful when you’re sitting on a terrace watching the light go golden over the water. Rain does happen — June isn’t bone dry — and you might catch a thunderstorm or a grey day, particularly in the first half of the month. It’s not something to panic about, but pack a light layer and don’t assume every single day will be postcard perfect.

What June actually gets right is the crowd situation. The island is awake — restaurants are open, boats are running, the promenades in Mali Lošinj and Veli Lošinj have actual life in them — but you’re not fighting for space on the beaches or waiting forty minutes for a table. The pine-shaded coves that get absolutely rammed in July and August are genuinely enjoyable. You can swim, find a spot, breathe. It feels like the island is functioning for people who live or stay there rather than just processing tourists through.

Everything worth visiting is open by June. The Apoxyomenos Museum, the aromatherapy garden, boat trips, kayaking, the dolphin research centre — it’s all running. Prices are slightly lower than peak season too, which adds up over a week.

So who should go in June? Honestly, almost anyone. Couples who want atmosphere without chaos, families who want kids to actually get near the sea, anyone who finds August crowds genuinely stressful. It suits walkers and cyclists particularly well because the heat is manageable rather than brutal.

**One practical tip:** book your accommodation earlier than you think necessary. June has a reputation now. The good places — particularly anything in Veli Lošinj — fill up faster than the month’s quieter image suggests.
