# Menorca in September: The Sweet Spot Nobody Talks About Enough
September might honestly be the best month to visit Menorca, and I say that as someone who’s also sweated through August there wondering why I did that to myself.
The temperature sits around 25°C, which sounds modest on paper but feels genuinely perfect in practice. You’re warm enough to swim every single day – and you absolutely will, because the sea has spent all summer heating up and it’s gorgeous right now – but you’re not that person lying face-down on the sand at 2pm questioning your life choices. Evenings are pleasant rather than suffocating. You can actually walk somewhere without arriving drenched.
That rain figure of around 47mm for the month sounds alarming, but don’t picture a miserable drizzly holiday. It typically shows up as a few dramatic afternoon thunderstorms that roll in fast, do their thing, and leave. You’ll probably spend a couple of afternoons sheltering in a bar with a gin with hierbas, which isn’t the worst outcome.
The crowds thin out noticeably from the first week onwards. August Menorca is rammed – the beaches at Cala Macarella and Cala en Turqueta are genuinely difficult to enjoy. By mid-September you can actually find a spot. The roads are calmer. Restaurants have availability. Staff seem happier, which makes everything more enjoyable.
Almost everything stays open throughout September. Boat trips still run, beach bars are still serving, and most restaurants are operating full hours. Things start closing from October, so you’re catching the island at its last fully-functioning moment without peak-season chaos.
Who is this month perfect for? Couples, anyone who hates crowds, people who want to actually see the island rather than just the beach. Families with slightly older kids who don’t need the August school holiday timing. Basically any adult who finds August exhausting.
**Practical tip:** Book accommodation early anyway. September has grown a reputation, and the good places – particularly around Ciutadella – fill up faster than you’d expect for what people still think of as shoulder season.
