# Mostar in March: The Honest Version

March in Mostar is genuinely unpredictable, and nobody should pretend otherwise. The weather sits in that awkward in-between zone where you might get crisp sunny days that feel almost spring-like, or you might get cold grey drizzle that makes the old town feel a bit forlorn. Pack layers, bring a waterproof, and abandon any fantasy of sitting outside a café in a t-shirt. It happens, but you cannot count on it.

What March does give you is the city largely to yourself. The summer crowds that turn Stari Most into a selfie traffic jam simply don’t exist yet. You can stand on the bridge and actually look at it rather than wait for thirty people to move. The old town’s cobblestones, which become genuinely exhausting to navigate in July, feel peaceful and walkable. This is the Mostar that residents actually experience, and there’s real value in that.

The honest caveat is that some tourist-facing businesses operate reduced hours or haven’t fully reopened yet. A handful of restaurants and souvenir shops stay shuttered until April or later. The ones that are open, though, are quieter and often more welcoming because of it. You’ll get better service and more genuine conversation.

Blagaj, the stunning dervish monastery tucked into the cliffside about fifteen minutes away, is absolutely worth the trip and will be nearly empty. Same goes for Kravice Waterfalls if you want a day excursion, though check current access conditions before heading out.

Is March worth it? Genuinely yes, but for a specific kind of traveller. If you care more about atmosphere and authenticity than sunshine and guaranteed open restaurants, March rewards you. If you need everything operating at full capacity and want reliably warm weather, wait until May.

**One practical tip:** bring cash in Bosnian marks. Card acceptance remains inconsistent in the old town, and this catches visitors off guard more than almost anything else. Withdraw before you arrive in the historic centre rather than scrambling around looking for an ATM mid-visit.
