Nafplio in April sits in that genuinely pleasant sweet spot before Greece gets overrun and overheated. Nineteen degrees is real walking-around weather — you’ll be comfortable in a light jacket in the morning, probably stripping down to a t-shirt by early afternoon, then grateful for that jacket again once the sun drops. It’s not beach weather, which is actually fine because Nafplio rewards walking above almost anything else.

The 30mm of rain across the month sounds worse than it is. You’re realistically looking at a handful of grey days, maybe one properly wet afternoon where you duck into a taverna and accidentally spend three hours over lunch. That’s not a disaster. That’s kind of the point.

Crowds are manageable in early April, noticeably busier by late April as Greek Easter approaches — and if Easter falls in April your particular year, expect the town to be genuinely packed with Athenians making the two-hour drive for the long weekend. Restaurants are mostly open too, though a few quieter spots may still be on winter hours. The old town is walkable and charming without the August sardine-tin experience.

This trip suits people who actually want to explore rather than collapse on a sunlounger. History enthusiasts, couples who like wandering without a plan, anyone who finds high-season Mediterranean tourism exhausting. If you need guaranteed beach days and cocktails by a pool, come back in July and accept the consequences.

**One practical tip:** Book accommodation in the old town itself rather than the outskirts. Nafplio’s centre is small and walkable, but the atmosphere after dinner — when the day-trippers have gone home — belongs almost entirely to people staying overnight. That quiet is genuinely lovely and you’ll miss it completely if you’re a taxi ride away.
