Let’s be honest with you: Nafplio in December is grey, sometimes drizzly, and occasionally genuinely cold. That 9.8°C average sounds manageable until the wind comes off the Argolic Gulf and cuts straight through whatever jacket you thought was sufficient. Pack something warmer than you think you need.

The fortress stays open, and honestly on a clear December day the views over the bay are stunning in that low winter light.

Is it worth it? For the right person, absolutely yes. If you hate heat and crowds, want to actually explore rather than exist among tourists, and enjoy having a historic town feel like it belongs to the people who live there, December delivers something the summer genuinely cannot. Romantic weekend? Excellent choice. Family trip with young kids expecting beach weather? Probably not the timing.

**Practical tip:** Book accommodation with heating that actually works and confirm this before arriving. Not every guesthouse in an old building runs their heating adequately in what locals consider “mild” winter temperatures.
