# Petrovac in September: The Sweet Spot Nobody Talks About
Petrovac in September is genuinely one of the better-kept secrets on the Montenegrin coast, and I say that as someone who’s also seen it in peak July madness.
The honest weather picture is this: early September usually still feels like summer, warm enough to swim comfortably and sit outside in the evenings without reaching for a jacket. By the back half of the month, things get more unpredictable. You might get a run of perfect golden days, or you might get a week that turns grey and rainy with that particular Adriatic stubbornness. Nobody can really promise you either way, so pack accordingly and don’t build your entire trip around guaranteed beach weather.
What changes dramatically is the crowd situation. The Russian and Serbian families who fill the place to bursting in July and August have largely gone home. The beach at Petrovac – which in peak season can feel genuinely claustrophobic despite being pretty – suddenly has breathing room. You can actually find a sunbed without sending a scouting party ahead. The pebbles become accessible again, which sounds basic but honestly transforms the experience.
Most restaurants and bars stay open through September, though some of the smaller places start closing after the 20th or so. The old fortress area, the Venetian tower, and the surrounding pine walks remain completely accessible. You’re not losing much on the things-to-do front.
Who is September genuinely right for? Couples who want atmosphere without the chaos, older travellers who prefer a quieter pace, anyone who wants to combine beach time with actually wandering around without sweating through their clothes at 10am. Families with school-age kids have obviously gone home by then, which either disappoints or delights you depending on your perspective.
The one practical thing worth knowing: hire a car for at least part of your stay. The beaches around Buljarica and Pržno are close but awkward without transport, and in September you’ll actually want to explore rather than just park yourself on one strip of pebbles the whole time.
