# Rhodes in October: The Sweet Spot Nobody Talks About

Honestly, October might be the month I’d pick over everything else for Rhodes. The summer crowds have largely evaporated, the sea is still genuinely warm from months of baking sun, and the island starts feeling like it actually belongs to the people who live there again.

The weather sits around 20°C, which sounds mild on paper but feels lovely in practice. You’ll get proper sunshine most days, warm enough to swim comfortably and eat outside every evening without needing a jacket until late. That 45mm of rainfall does mean you’ll likely catch a shower or two during the month, sometimes a proper downpour, but they tend to pass quickly. It’s nothing like the grey drizzle of northern Europe. Pack a light layer and don’t stress about it.

The Old Town of Rhodes is genuinely magical in October. You can actually walk the cobbled streets without shuffling along in a human traffic jam, photograph the Knights’ Street without forty selfie sticks in the frame, and browse the shops without feeling vaguely claustrophobic. Most restaurants, bars, and attractions remain open through October, though some beach clubs and water sports operators start closing around mid-month. The main archaeological sites and the Palace of the Grand Masters are absolutely still running.

Is it worth it? For couples, solo travellers, and anyone over about twenty-five who has outgrown the party-beach-bar scene, absolutely yes. Families will love it too since the sea temperature stays around 24-25°C and beaches aren’t rammed. If you’re specifically chasing nightlife or a buzzing resort atmosphere, late October can feel a little quiet in places like Faliraki, which is either a relief or a disappointment depending entirely on who you are.

**One practical tip:** book a jeep or car for at least two or three days. October is perfect for driving into the interior – the Valley of the Butterflies, Lindos village without the queues, the hilltop ruins of Monolithos. You’ll see a completely different island that most summer visitors never find.
