# Rovinj in April: What It’s Actually Like

April in Rovinj sits in that slightly awkward middle ground between ghost town and summer chaos, which honestly makes it pretty interesting depending on what you’re after.

The weather is mild rather than warm. At around 15°C you’re comfortable walking the cobbled streets of the old town, climbing up to St. Euphemia’s church without arriving drenched in sweat, and sitting at a harbour-front café if you pick one in the sun and keep your jacket on. But swimming is firmly off the table, the sea is still cold enough to make you regret any impulsive decisions, and those 30mm of April rain do fall in concentrated bursts that can pin you inside for a morning. Pack a proper waterproof rather than just hoping for the best.

Crowds are genuinely manageable. Easter weekend is the exception and can bring a noticeable spike of Croatian and Slovenian visitors, so check your dates before assuming you’ll have the place to yourself. Outside that, you can walk through the old town, browse the little galleries and studios, and actually pause to look at things without being shuffled along by a river of selfie sticks. The town feels like it belongs to itself in a way it simply doesn’t in July or August.

Most restaurants are open, though some of the bigger seasonal places are still finding their rhythm in early April. The fish and seafood is excellent and the prices haven’t yet adjusted for tourist season, which your wallet will appreciate. Boat trips and some outdoor excursions are weather-dependent but available.

Is it worth going? For couples, solo travellers, photographers, and anyone who wants to actually experience a beautiful Istrian town rather than survive one, yes, genuinely. For families expecting beach holidays and full summer entertainment, wait until June.

**Practical tip:** Book accommodation anyway. April availability can look deceptively wide open, then Easter weekend fills everything decent fast and you end up somewhere charmless on the main road.
