# Selçuk in September: Still Warm, Finally Breathable

Look, if you visited Selçuk in July or August, you’d understand why September feels like a gift. The temperature sits around 32°C, which sounds hot on paper, but compared to the punishing 40-degree peak summer madness, it genuinely feels manageable. You’ll still sweat walking up to the Ephesus ruins by midday, so don’t kid yourself, but the evenings cool down enough to actually enjoy sitting outside with a glass of something cold without feeling like you’re melting into the pavement.

The rain figure of around 17mm for the month is pretty negligible. You might get one or two brief afternoon showers, nothing that’ll derail your plans. Pack a light layer for evenings rather than a proper rain jacket.

**Crowds and atmosphere** are probably September’s biggest selling point. The absolute peak madness of summer is fading. Cruise ship day-trippers still appear at Ephesus in waves, usually between 10am and 2pm, which remains genuinely chaotic and slightly soul-destroying. But the small town itself feels noticeably calmer. Restaurants have availability, guesthouse owners have time to actually talk to you, and you’re not fighting forty strangers for a photo at the Library of Celsus.

Everything is open. This is full tourist season still, so all the sites, the Ephesus Archaeological Museum, the Basilica of St John, the House of the Virgin Mary if that’s your thing – all running normally with good hours.

**Is it worth going?** Honestly, yes, especially if you’re historically curious and on a budget. Prices are slightly lower than peak July, the food is excellent, and the town is genuinely pleasant rather than just a staging post for Ephesus. If you hate heat at all, though, wait for October when it drops another five degrees and feels dramatically more comfortable.

**Practical tip:** Get to Ephesus when gates open, ideally around 8am. That two-hour window before cruise passengers arrive is a completely different experience – quieter, cooler, and you’ll actually enjoy it.
